PIAC is a strong advocate for justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Our Indigenous Justice Program (IJP), generously supported by law firm Allens, works in partnership with Indigenous organisations and communities to identify public interest issues which impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We conduct advocacy, strategic litigation and policy work to address these wrongs.
The IJP works on a wide range of issues including policing, the over-representation of young people in detention and discrimination.
For many years, PIAC has also worked closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in advocating for effective and adequate reparations to be made to members of the Stolen Generations and for the repayment of wages and entitlements held in trust by governments.
