Promoting equality and combating discrimination are fundamental to the protection of human rights in Australia.
The effects and legacy of systemic discrimination are experienced disproportionately by some groups within our community: especially people with disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
PIAC’s current work on equality focuses on achieving substantive equality for these groups within our community. Much of our recent work has concentrated on disability discrimination, unlawful detention and racial discrimination. We have also undertaken high-profile cases in relation to access to public transport by people with a disability.
