HPLS at Sydney Homeless Connect

PIAC’s Homeless Persons’ Legal Service had a busy day at the Homeless Connect event at Sydney Town Hall on 3 June.

On the day, in addition to being introduced to housing, health, employment, social, financial and legal services, people experiencing homelessness were treated to a hot hearty lunch, given medical and dental attention, offered new clothes, a haircut, a massage, and more – all for free.

About 12 lawyers from Corrs Chambers Westgarth provided legal advice and assistance to a steady stream of clients on a range of issues from housing to debt and criminal legal issues.

Members of PIAC’s consumer advisory committee, StreetCare, were also on hand to assist.

Sydney Homeless Connect is an annual event however there are similar events in other regions of NSW coming up later this year. Look out for HPLS at the Hunter Homeless Connect on 12 August and Western Sydney Homeless Connect at Parramatta on 22 September.
