In this submission PIAC makes a number of recommendations for additions to the Draft Disability Inclusion Plan Discussion Paper. The Draft Inclusion Plan, required under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW), is one of the many changes occurring in the provision of disability services and care in NSW. The Plan embodies the Government’s intention to lead the community to ensure that the rights of people with disability are better protected and promoted. Based on PIAC’s long history of working with people with disability, this submission suggests that the Plan be strengthened by adding additional focus areas and action points addressing: the overarching need to combat discrimination; the need to improve accessible transport; ensuring online accessibility and accessible media; and the issues experienced by people with disability when it comes to paying for electricity.
