2SER: Why we need to count the deaths of people experiencing homelessness

Recent media reports have revealed the estimated life expectancy of a person experiencing homelessness is only 44 years old.

The early deaths of people experiencing homelessness were linked to systemic failures in the housing, health and justice sectors. Yet no government in Australia tracks the number of deaths of people who have experienced or are experiencing homelessness.

The NSW Homelessness Minister Rose Jackson has said the government is considering changes to how these deaths are monitored.

Tony Pierce, from lived experience advocacy group StreetCare and Alannah Daly, PIAC Policy Officer joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss this important issue.
