The Public Interest Advocacy Centre invites you to join us for the 2021 Social Justice Dinner Reimagined, on Thursday 4 March 2021. We’re delighted to feature special guest speaker Rosemary Kayess, and Julian Morrow will be our MC for our live-streamed and interactive program.

The Social Justice Dinner is PIAC’s main fundraising event to support our work to create systemic change by tackling barriers to justice for people who are vulnerable and facing disadvantage. Guests will have the opportunity to win some fabulous silent auction prizes, and all funds raised will go towards PIAC’s social justice and human rights work. The 2021 event will be a virtual gathering of supporters to ensure COVID-safe participation.

Time: 8:00pm AEDT (approx. 45 minutes)

Venue:

We invite you to gather in a small group over dinner or drinks/canapes to host a virtual viewing from your office or home so that we may celebrate together, apart. The online program and silent auction links will be shared just prior to the event.

Tickets:

There will be no tickets sold for this event, but we ask that you please register your participation so that we may communicate with you about our program, including on the night.

Guest speaker: Rosemary Kayess

Rosemary Kayess2019 Human Rights Medal winner, Rosemary Kayess, is the Director Engagement, Disability Innovation Institute UNSW and a human rights lawyer. Rosemary is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales, convening international law and human rights subjects, focusing on the equality provisions within international instruments and their translation into domestic law and policy. She was a designated expert on the Australian Government delegation to the United Nations negotiations for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and facilitated the drafting of Article 24 on the Right to Education. In 2019 she commenced a four year term on the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and is Vice Chairperson.

MC: Julian Morrow

Julian MorrowComedian, writer, television producer and broadcaster, Julian Morrow, has made a career of public nuisance in various forms. Julian co-founded satirical media empire The Chaser and theatre company Giant Dwarf. He’s also created TV shows, including The Election Chaser, CNNNN, The Chaser’s War on Everything, The Hamster Wheel and The Checkout. Julian hopes one day to leave comedy and the media to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer again.
