Unlawful arrests class action set for showdown

The New South Wales Government will ask a judge to throw out claims that police could have avoided hundreds of unlawful arrests, the ABC reports.

The NSW Police Force is facing a class action in the state’s Supreme Court by young people who claim they were wrongfully detained because of glitches in the police computer system.

The claimants are being represented in court by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre and law firm Maurice Blackburn.

The centre’s senior solicitor, Vavaa Mawuli (pictured), says there have been complaints about the problem for years.
