Accessibility Statement

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to everyone. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the accessibility of this site, please contact us.

Site name

Each page begins with the site name ‘Public Interest Advocacy Centre’ as the line of content. This is also a link that takes you to the home page from anywhere in the site.

All pages contain a hidden ‘Skip to content’ link that can be activated using the tab key. This link allows assistive device users to quickly skip to relevant parts of the page.

Site navigation

The site navigation appears across the top of all pages. The navigation items are displayed as a list of links.

Content

The main content appears to the right of the section navigation on all pages except the home page and section pages.

Footer information

At the bottom of each page are links to PIAC’s accessibility statement (this page), copyright and disclaimer pages.

Links

The content of all text-based links has been written clearly and concisely to aid users with assistive devices.

Images

Concise text alternatives have been provided for all content-related images. Images that are purely decorative have not been given text alternatives.

Colour

Colours have been chosen to provide good contrast between text and backgrounds. We have avoided colour combinations that are known to cause difficulties for people with vision impairment.

Text size

Resizing text in Internet Explorer

Resizing tools are provided in the top right corner of all pages in the site.

  • A- will reduce the size of the text
  • A will return it to default size
  • A+ will increase the size of the text

There are also ways you can increase the size of your text using the in-built functionality of your web browser.

If you are using Internet Explorer, you can change the font size by selecting the ‘View’ menu item and then selecting the ‘Text Size’ option (see the image below). Internet Explorer offers five size options (largest, large, medium, smaller, smallest). When you change this setting it will be remembered for all web sites that you visit.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7, you can hold down the CTRL key and press the plus (+) or minus (-) keys, which will increase or decrease the entire page.

Resizing text in Firefox

If you are using Firefox, you can change the font size by selecting the ‘View’ menu item and then selecting the ‘Text Size’ option. Unlike Internet Explorer, you are not limited to five sizes - you can continue to increase or decrease the text size as needed. Firefox users can also hold down the CTRL key and press the plus (+) and minus (-) keys to increase or decrease the text size.

Resizing text in Apple Safari

If you are using Apple Safari, you can change the font size by selecting the ‘View’ menu item and then selecting either ‘Make text bigger’ or ‘Make text smaller’. You can increase or decrease the text size as needed. Safari users can also hold down the COMMAND key and press the plus (+) and minus (-) keys to increase or decrease the text size.
