HPLS partner, Thomson Geer, nominated for corporate volunteer award

We’re thrilled to report that our Homeless Persons’ Legal Service (HPLS) partner law firm, Thomson Geer, is a finalist in the NSW Volunteer of the Year awards.

They have been nominated in the category of Corporate Volunteer Team of the Year for the free legal clinic they provide at Vincentian House in Surry Hills.

Vincentian House is a St Vincent de Paul Society NSW homelessness service for families and single women. The weekly legal clinic provides free legal advice and assistance to residents, as well as other people experiencing homelessness and at risk of homelessness living in the community.

We coordinate the clinic through HPLS, which provides free legal clinics at 11 welfare agencies throughout Sydney.

‘One of the things that makes HPLS so effective is that we work in partnership with law firms and welfare agencies,’ said PIAC’s CEO, Edward Santow.

‘Relationships like the one between Thomson Geer and Vincentian House allow us to provide a high-quality legal service for vulnerable people who face barriers to justice.

‘We are very proud of our collaboration with Thomson Geer and Vincentian and we wish them the best of luck at the awards night on 5 December.’
