MANY young people have been wrongly imprisoned in NSW because of incorrect information on the police computer system, a court has found.
The ruling by the NSW Supreme Court paves the way for compensation claims against the NSW government by young people who were arrested and locked up for breaching bail when they weren’t even on bail.
The Public Interest Advocacy Centre launched a class action in 2011 claiming children and young people were being wrongly detained for breaching bail because the computer system did not have up-to-date information.
