Media and Communications Manager
Gemma has been the Media and Communications Manager at PIAC since 2013. She works to amplify the impact of PIAC’s cases and policy work in the public sphere, including through media coverage, social media engagement and publications.
Gemma has more than fifteen years experience in media and communications advocacy roles in government, opposition and the not-for-profit sector, and has worked as a radio presenter and producer in Sydney.
Between 2007 and 2011 she was a Media Advisor to senior ministers in the NSW Government in portfolios including Education, Community Services, Women and Fair Trading. She also acted in Policy and speechwriting positions, and spent close to two years working as a Media and Policy Advisor to the Deputy Leader of the NSW Opposition (2011-2013).
Gemma has held media and communications positions in local government and was the presenter of a drive time program at Sydney’s 2SER FM for five years where she was also employed as a Producer, Spot Producer and Station Supervisor.
Gemma has a Bachelor of Media (Hons), majoring in Film and Television Production, from Macquarie University, where she has also tutored Radio Production and Scriptwriting Courses. She regularly delivers Media and Advocacy workshops for law students as part of PIAC’s Social Justice Clinical Summer Course and Practicing in the Public Interest Course.
Over the years, Gemma has worked on numerous short films and videos as a Director, Editor, and Production Designer.
