The Sri Lankan civil war spanned more than 25 years, ending in 2009. There have been thousands of reports of war crimes and human rights violations committed by all sides during that period. Many of the perpetrators have never been held to account.
The Public Interest Advocacy Centre has been working to highlight human rights violations in Sri Lanka for more than a decade. That work has culminated with the release of an interactive conflict map that uses open source information to map thousands of reported human rights violations from the civil war.
Nadeshda Jayakody, a Senior Legal Officer in PIAC’s team working on Sri Lanka, explained the purpose of the map on 2SER Breakfast.
