Master of Ceremonies: Fran Kelly
Journalist Fran Kelly is best known for hosting ABC Radio National’s Breakfast for 15 years. She has also been Radio National’s Canberra bureau chief, chief political correspondent with AM and PM, political editor for ABC TV’s 7:30, host of ABC TV’s Insiders and the ABC’s Europe correspondent. She now hosts the Friday night tv talk show Frankly.
Kelly has been recognised by the(sydney)magazine as one of Sydney’s 100 most influential people, and described by Crikey as “one of the most influential media players in the country”. An active feminist, Kelly launched the Australian Human Rights Commission’s “Same-Sex: Same Entitlements” inquiry in 2007, has been involved with One Just World’s speaker forums, a “Women of the World” forum for WOMADelaide and the “Stand Up Against Poverty” forum in 2009.
Special Guest speaker: Dr Kimahli Powell
Kimahli is a senior leader in the INGO field with expertise in community building and strategic advocacy with a focus on international development, law and policy, HIV/AIDs and internally displaced persons. Since joining Rainbow Railroad as Executive Director, Kimahli has led the organization through transformational growth helping thousands of people in the process. Under his leadership, Rainbow Railroad expanded its international reach and completed successful crisis interventions in Chechnya, Egypt, Uganda, and more recently Aghanistan and Ukraine.
Kimahli holds a Doctor of Laws from the University of Victoria and was listed in Out Magazine’s 100 profile of influential LGBTQI+ people in 2018. Kimahli has served as a board member for ILGA, former Chair of the Dignity Network and is a current board member of the Foundation for Black Communities and Refugee Council USA. Kimahli is a regular contributor to international media with appearances on CNN, MSBC, CBC, BBC and a profile on 60 Minutes.
