PIAC supported a submission led by the Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS) to the National Electric Vehicle Strategy Consultation paper (the Paper). The Paper sought feedback on the goals, objectives, framework, and actions for the implementation of a national strategy to electrify road transport in Australia.
The joint submission argued that to ensure benefits for all, the transition to net zero emissions must be fair and inclusive. It highlighted concerns that without clear goals and objectives to reduce current transport inequities, the strategy, and policies to accelerate zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs) uptake could increase transport and energy inequality in Australia. PIACs contribution to the joint submission focussed on the role of effective network tariffs and charging structures in ensuring efficient update of EVs that does not negatively impact energy affordability and equity.
