PIAC made a submission to Essential Energy’s Draft 2024-29 Tariff Structure Statement (TSS). The TSS outlined Essential Energy’s proposed tariffs for 2024-2029 and provided justification for those tariffs. In particular the TSS included discussion on consumer energy resources cost-reflective network charges and two-way pricing.

PIAC’s submission supported the rapid adoption of cost-reflective network charges (CRNT).  We highlighted the role of network tariffs and how they interact with retail tariffs and consumer choice.

Our submission broadly agreed that Essentials proposed approach was consistent with the priorities and preferences expressed by the community through engagement that PIAC was involved in. We argued the final approach to two-way pricing mut be clearly founded on the preferences of consumers and the community in addressing the identified issues

  • Ensuring fair and efficient sharing of available network solar hosting capacity, and
  • Ensuring fair recovery of costs associated with hosting solar, and
  • Providing transparent network pricing signals which support more efficient use of household solar for household and system benefit.

We further commented on NSW roadmap and NSW Hydrogen strategy costs in relation to Essential’s tariff proposal.
