PIAC made a submission to the Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) Consultation Paper Efficient reactive current access standards for inverter-based resources.

In this submission we opposed the proposal to set the minimum level of reactive current capability to zero. Lowering the minimum level of reactive current capability to zero shifts the burden of providing voltage stability services to networks and creates additional costs for consumers.

PIAC argued that generators are best positioned to manage the costs related to reactive current support equipment and recommended that these costs should not be considered material unless they effect project viability.
