The Public Interest Advocacy Centre made a submission to the Department of Planning Industry and Environment (DPIE) in response to their Issues Paper, as part of the review of the Accredited Service Provider (ASP) Scheme.
PIAC strongly supports retention of the ASP scheme, and welcomed the review as an opportunity to ensure the scheme is fit-for-purpose during the rapid transition of the energy system.
PIAC recommended that explicit objectives created to frame the operation, evolution and evaluation of the scheme, and supported the implied objectives outlined in the Issues Paper forming the basis of explicit regulatory objectives for the scheme. Mitigating risk to consumer and considering net-benefit to consumers should be key considerations for any expansion or augmentation of services covered by the scheme.
