Reparations for the Stolen Generations

PIAC has made a submission to the NSW parliamentary inquiry on reparations for the Stolen Generations, calling for an independent tribunal to award a range of redress measures as a matter or urgency.

PIAC also urges the Committee conducting the inquiry to consider the intergenerational impact of the forcible removals policy, with a new generation of Aboriginal children being removed from their families by child protection and criminal justice policies. With redress for survivors of institutionalised child sex abuse now on the COAG agenda, it is vital for NSW communities that this long-standing issue is also finally addressed.

PIAC has supported the work of the Committee by holding a submission-writing workshop and a well-attended parliamentary forum bringing together key stakeholders. Submissions to the inquiry close on 18 October.
