NSW electricity prices appeal: hearing

4 August is an important milestone in PIAC’s appeal on NSW electricity prices. PIAC is challenging the price determination from the Australian Energy Regulator, and we are seeking price cuts of over $150 per year. At the same time, the three NSW electricity networks are seeking a determination that would increase average electricity prices by about $500 per year.

The Australian Competition Tribunal has already ruled that the appeals from PIAC and the Networks will proceed in September. On 4 August, the Tribunal will hear applications for leave to intervene in those matters from eight other networks from across Australia, whose revenue will be significantly affected by the precedent set in NSW.

The story is covered on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald.
