NSW power companies want price rise to pay for networks

Regardless of when and whether the carbon tax is repealed, residents in the most populous state, New South Wales, may have to brace for even higher power bills.

The power networks have asked for price rises over the next five years to maintain their transmission and distribution networks.

The companies say the rises guarantee stability and are not as steep as they have been in the past.
