Streetcare’s Ken Hamilton appointed to Premier’s Council on Homelessness

Longstanding StreetCare member Ken Hamilton has been appointed as a consumer representative to the Premier’s Advisory Council on Homelessness.

Ken is a founding member of StreetCare, PIAC’s consumer advisory committee on homelessness. Ken has been an active and committed advocate for the rights and interests of homeless people for over six years.

During this time, Ken has brought his experience of living on the streets to advocate to local, state and federal governments about the need for better access to crisis accommodation and medium term housing for homeless people.

Ken has been involved with the Western Sydney Taskforce, HPLS Homeless Consumer Forums, consultations on the NSW Protocol for Homeless People. Since 2010, he has been a member of the organising committee for the annual Sydney Homeless Connect day.

Ken’s appointment recognises his outstanding commitment to advocating for homeless people, based on his own experience of living on the streets for several years.

‘I see my role as representing the views and interests of homeless people. It is them that I will be representing,’ Ken said, upon his appointment.

Ken was interviewed as part of the StreetCare In their voices project last year. You can watch Ken’s video here.
