Long-time former PIAC staff member, Professor Andrea Durbach, won the Law Award at the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Human Rights Awards last night.
Professor Durbach is a member of the Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales and Director of the Human Rights Law Centre. She worked at PIAC for over 10 years as Principal Solicitor and then CEO, finishing in 2004.
Among her many achievements at PIAC, Professor Durbach led important work to promote justice for members of the Stolen Generations and established the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service.
PIAC warmly congratulates Professor Durbach on this well-deserved award. Whether it be through litigation, legislative interventions, submissions or teaching, she has shown an outstanding commitment to protecting human rights, said Edward Santow, CEO of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre.
