One missed appointment with Centrelink was all it took to make AJ homeless

”I was living in a boarding house, I was having issues with alcohol, I missed an appointment with CentreLink, and was breached,” says StreetCare member, AJ.

“One of the biggest things that affected me was the psychological impact of initially becoming homeless. Stepping out the front of that boarding house with a backpack and carry bag and that’s it; that’s all you’ve got in life.”

Listen to AJ tell his story, posted on the Something In Common website and recorded as part of a digital project called In Their Words.

In Their Words is an initiative from the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service and its consumer advisory group, StreetCare.
