StreetCare member, AJ, has been ‘Highly Commended’ in the 2012 National Volunteer Awards announced this week.
The Federal member for Sydney, Tanya Plibersek (pictured with AJ), presented the award at a ceremony in the Redfern Oval Community Room.
The National Volunteer Awards recognise the important contribution made by volunteers to Australian life and to local communitities. The award judges said they were very impressed and moved by AJ’s nomination.
AJ’s commendation caps a productive time for StreetCare members.
Recently, StreetCare went live with a series of online autobiographical videos that provide first-hand insights into homelessness.
Called In their Words,
the video project will be included in training programs for people who work with
homeless clients. The videos can also be shown to policymakers, service
providers and MPs to improve their understanding of individual experiences of
homelessness.
