Railcorp in court over garbled announcements

Railcorp is to face court action over a failure to provide audible announcements consistently on its trains.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) is acting on behalf of Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes and has made complaints to Railcorp about the issue for over two years.

Mr Innes, who is blind and uses a guide dog, tweeted yesterday that Railcorp had again failed to provide audible announcements as he attempted to catch a train.

The PIAC claims Railcorp is in breach of Federal disability discrimination law as audible announcements are crucial to the vision-impaired.

PIAC chief executive Edward Santow says Railcorp has been on notice about the issue for many years.
