Mary, a Street Care member and a single mother, tells ABC Newcastle’s Aaron Kearney about her very short journey to becoming homeless.
‘In 2008 I had a relationship break up,’ Mary recalls.
‘I’d moved interstate, and I had to come back. I had no job, no pay cheque, I fell into arrears with my rent.’
After three eviction notices and an unsuccessful appeal to a tribunal, Mary and her daughter were put out of their home.
‘It was absolutely devastating,’ she says.
