Submission to the Ten Year Review of the Police Oversight System in NSW

PIAC’s submission to the Ten Year Review of the Police Oversight system in NSW, made to the NSW Parliamentary Ombudsman and Police Integrity Commission Committee, calls for a complete overhaul of the current system of investigation of complaints against police to ensure that such complaints are subject to an independent investigation rather that one conducted by the police. In the absence of such an overhaul, PIAC makes recommendations on a range of aspects of the current system to ensure greater oversight by the Ombudsman and accountability to the complainant.
