HPLS made a submission on the content of homelessness legislation to the House of Representatives Standing Committee of Family, Community, Housing and Youth. In this submission, HPLS expressed its support for the Federal Government’s commitment to develop new legislation aimed at addressing and reducing homelessness in Australia. HPLS focuses on the principles underpinning the proposed new homelessness legislation and government initiatives in the areas of social inclusion and human rights.HPLS submits that new national legislation must be based on a human rights framework that enforces rights to housing, health care and consumer participation in order to ensure it adequately responds to the many issues surrounding homelessness.Word version available on request to HPLS – [email protected]
