Inquiry into the prohibition on the publication of names of children

involved in criminal proceedings

PIAC has made a brief submission to the NSW Parliamentary inquiry into the legislative prohibition on publication of the names of children involved in criminal proceedings. PIAC's submission urges the retention of the protection on the basis that this is consistent with the need to give primacy to the principle of rehabilitation when dealing with children in the criminal justice system. This principle reflects the protections of children provided in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
